Chapter 1

A Marlboros Christmas Poem

Emily

Welcome back to This Week in Blue & White — and happy holidays! This is our Christmas Eve Special and honestly, I am so excited for this one. If you’ve been following us all season, this episode’s all about celebrating what makes the Toronto Marlboros U15 AAA like, seriously the best hockey family around.

PT

Yeah, totally, Emily. You know, we always talk about hustle and habits and all that stuff on the ice, but tonight? This is about spirit, gratitude, sharing some fun, and, uh, I guess me trying not to get too sentimental. It’s a time to think about everyone involved — the players, all the staff, the coaches, the parents. Feels good, right?

Coach Wayne

Couldn’t agree more, PT. I wanna say — every single person who pulls on that Marlboros jersey or helps behind the scenes, you’re the reason we show up every day. And hey, this is your moment. So let’s make it special. Emily, you got something festive lined up for us, right?

Emily

Oh, you bet. Okay, everyone: it’s time for the first-ever Marlboros Christmas poem. Settle in, grab that hot chocolate, try not to laugh at my rhymes — here we go!

Emily

’Twas the week before Christmas, at the rink ice-blue, Coach Joe Birch gathered players for one last review.

PT

Michael Little smiled, Wayne Primeau the same, With Dave Nicoletti ready to prep the next game.

Coach Wayne

Kas Krol had the goalies sharp, always on their toes, While Prentice Toker checked gear — tightening straps and hose.

Emily

Kris George, our manager, kept things neat and bright, Making sure every Marlie was ready each night.

PT

On defense stood Charlie Birch skating steady and true, Adam Kalantzakos guarding lanes opponents flew.

Coach Wayne

Hunter Nadeau closed gaps, George Zettas rang the iron, And Adrian Leung broke plays with heart and fire.

Emily

Callum Ryan boxed out like a fortress of stone, While the D-corps made attackers feel far from home.

PT

Up front there was fire — a holiday spark, Jake Mancino quick-strike, lighting up the dark.

Coach Wayne

Colton Lamming battled hard, causing havoc each shift, Tyler Longo scored goals like each shot was a gift.

Emily

Ethan Thompson attacked with confidence and pride, Matthew Heine fired rockets the goalie couldn’t hide.

PT

Andrew Hanson worked magic down low near the crease, And Cohen Hutchison flew by defenders with ease.

Coach Wayne

Luca George sniped corners — a candy-cane treat, Caden Duke danced through traffic, impossible to beat.

Emily

Jayden Challenger charged with a grin ear to ear, Making scoreboards flicker like Christmas cheer.

PT

Between the pipes stood guardians — calm, poised, and tight, Lucas Young shutting doors on cold winter nights.

Coach Wayne

Lynkin Heath made saves — sprawling, sharp, and clean, A goaltending Christmas miracle, hockey evergreen.

Emily

They practiced, they battled, they laughed and they learned, Earned victories earned, and respect they had earned.

PT

For this hockey family, there’s nowhere we’d rather be Than together as Marlies — united, strong, and free.

Coach Wayne

So here’s to the players, the staff, moms and dads, The memories, the moments — the good and the bad.

Emily

May your holiday shine like fresh snowfall below,

PT

Merry Christmas, U15 Marlboros —

Emily

Let your spirit glow!

Emily

That’s it! A little cheesy, I know, but honestly — how can you not feel proud hearing every name and role celebrated? It’s just, like — this big beautiful hockey family thing. Coach Wayne, PT, what’d you think?

PT

You know what, I love it. Everyone who makes this team tick, big or small, deserves a little spotlight during the holiday season. You see it in the locker room, the details that don’t show up on the game sheet. All of that makes the wins, the comebacks, the tough nights — all of it, better.

Coach Wayne

Yeah — and it doesn’t hurt to stop and just say thanks, right? Hey, I’ll tell you, it’s those little things, the laughs at practice, blocking shots, picking each other up after a tough loss — you realize that’s actually what you remember. We’ve talked about it in other episodes, like when we touched on culture and building trust, and… well, that’s what holidays are for, too. Reflection — and maybe a bit of rest before the next challenge hits.

Emily

Before we sign off: thank you to all our listeners for tuning in all season — seriously, it means a lot to all of us with the Marlies. PT, wanna do the honors?

PT

Absolutely. Folks, hope this holiday brings you lots of laughs, some good food, and the chance to just be with your people. Rest up — and we’ll be back with more hockey stories, more highlights, and, uh… probably a few more groan-worthy poems if Emily has her way.

Coach Wayne

Hey, Emily, I love the poems, keep ‘em coming. Everybody, enjoy the break, recharge, and — you know me — can’t wait to see you all back at the rink. Merry Christmas!

Emily

Merry Christmas, Marlies! Take care, everyone — and we’ll see you after the Marlboros Holiday Classic!

PT

Merry Christmas!

Coach Wayne

Happy holidays, everybody!
