Chapter 1

Nationals Clash: Grit and Poise

Emily

Hey everyone, welcome back to This Week in Blue & White. I’m Emily, and—as always—I’ve got the legend PT here with me.

PT

Hey folks! So, two games this week, but let’s start with that Nationals game. I swear, the vibe in the rink, it felt just like playoff hockey. You know what I mean, Emily? Tight, heavy, just gritty.

Emily

Completely agree. The Marlboros really dictated the flow—like, they outshot the Nationals, 52 to 33 in shot attempts? That’s wild. Control, poise, puck possession—everything you want in a high-stakes game.

PT

Absolutely. And the faceoff wins? I think it was 60% for the Marlies. That makes a huge difference, especially in those “gotta have it” moments.

Emily

Yeah, and individual performances totally popped. Hanson was in beast mode—nine shots, plus a goal and an assist. That drive all night, you could feel it from him shift after shift.

PT

Man, and Challenger—he just keeps producing! Two huge goals; always around the net, stirring things up, making the D work. And Longo, I mean—I don’t think he missed. He was perfect shooting that night. Plus, Thompson: three assists and barely anyone noticed, cause it was all those smart, under-pressure setups.

Emily

But I don’t want to skip over the defensive side—Leung and Nadeau, both pretty rock solid, right? Gaps were tight, exits were clean. They handled some tough matchups out there like it was nothing.

PT

For sure. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes thing—I spent extra time prepping the locker room before this one, just to get everybody dialed in. You just know, with guys like Zettas, Ryan and Birch steadying things at the back, everyone’s a bit more settled. It ripples up the bench, especially against a team like the Nationals.

Emily

Yeah, and, you know, when the whole team’s controlling possession and sharing the points, it just shows their confidence and trust—in each other and in the system. You could see the discipline in a physical, close game. Definitely a nice measure of where the group’s at right now.

PT

Yeah, and to be honest, these are the games everyone, uh, learns from. Super physical, but the Marlboros just played smarter hockey. All right, but things were about to get a whole lot more wide open next game…

Chapter 2

Offensive Outburst vs Markham Majors

Emily

Oh, totally! So game two was basically the opposite. The Marlboros just exploded against the Markham Majors—like, 69 shot attempts? That’s almost video game stuff. Then the floodgates blew open in the second with five goals. The bench energy—seriously, it felt like the whole rink was on its feet. Kinda reminded me of those buzzer-beater moments from when I played basketball as a kid. Just, pure adrenaline.

PT

Yeah, whole team rolling. But Challenger—man, he was everywhere. Three goals, an assist, and 15—yeah, 15 shots. And on top of that, he was winning a pile of draws, like, 71 percent? It’s just…when he’s on, everything seems easier for everyone else.

Emily

And Longo matched him stride for stride. Two goals, two assists, like those two just feed off each other. But what got me was how every line found ways to contribute—it wasn’t just the top scorers padding the stats, you know? Even when the bench got short or the game got scrappy, no one really let up.

PT

That’s what I love about this group. Sometimes, you have a couple lines lighting it up, but with these guys, you’re looking at three lines that keep their foot on the gas. And honestly, the second period… you could feel the building let out a big roar after each one. The boys really embraced that chaos, and it worked.

Emily

It was like, every pressure shift had a pulse. It all goes back to what we talked about after the Holiday Classic, about building habits—be ready whenever your number’s called, doesn’t matter the score or period. And this one, everyone answered.

PT

Exactly. It’s the hallmark of a deep, hungry team. But, you know, that kind of outburst only really happens when the guys on the back end set things up right. Let’s chat about those blue line contributions…

Chapter 3

Defensive Depth and Team Identity

Emily

Right—cause their defense didn’t just play safe. Leung had two goals from the blue line, just jumping up at the right times. Zettas was huge too, —two assists, a lot of tough minutes. Lamming, getting a goal and an assist, but even more so, just flying up and down the ice, keeping the pressure on both ends. And you’ve got Duke, Birch, Ryan always buzzing and making smart plays, even if they’re not always on the scoresheet.

PT

Yeah, and those are the shifts you remember in the locker room after, when everyone’s gassed and happy. The D core—every one of ‘em—brings their own style, but it all adds up. When your blue line’s aggressive and calm at the same time, forwards start feeling way more confidence to push for those big plays.

Emily

It’s transition too, right? One second you’re breaking up a cycle, next you’re up ice with numbers. That’s how they turned all those breakouts into stretch plays and odd-man rushes. I feel like all four lines—everyone had moments where they could just go, knowing the back door was locked down.

PT

That’s it. Like, the score keeps climbing but nobody’s nervous. The D is just calm, and that kind of trust goes, you know, kind of viral through the whole squad. It’s—how do I say it, it’s depth hockey. Everyone pulling in the same direction. And not for nothin’, but coming into the room after, you could sense that confidence. Like, the boys just knew they could play their game against anybody.

Emily

So, two games, two really different feels—but it comes back to the same Marlboros identity: compete level, transition, commitment top to bottom. If they keep rolling like this, it’s gonna get real interesting come playoff time.

PT

Definitely. And, uh, that about does it for us this week. Appreciate everyone tuning in—these are the fun episodes to record, honestly. Emily, always a pleasure!

Emily

Right back at ya, PT! Thanks everyone for listening to This Week in Blue & White. Can’t wait to break down more hockey next episode. See ya guys!

PT

Take care, folks. Go Marlboros!
