Chapter 1

Marlboros Dominate Markham

Emily

Hey everyone, welcome back to This Week in Blue & White – and yep, it’s episode twenty already. Kinda wild to say, right Wayne?

Coach Wayne

Yeah, twenty! And honestly, Emily, it feels like this group keeps raising the bar every week. Whether it’s on the ice or all the stuff they do off it — the culture is solid. Super fun to watch, I gotta say.

Emily

And we’re diving into a week that maybe, honestly, felt like the most “Marlboros” vibe you could script — couple of massive wins and some team fun you totally wish you could've been part of. But let’s start with last Monday against Markham. That game was just, what, pure chaos? Final was 9–5, but it felt like every shift something wild was happening.

Coach Wayne

Oh for sure. I gotta say, when you get 69 shot attempts in a single game, you know you're pouring it on. The big thing for me was that second period — we scored five goals in that frame alone, really took the momentum and just ran Markham out of the building for a stretch there.

Emily

It was like Markham was on their heels pretty much the whole time. Just wave after wave, cycling, zone time... all those little things we've talked about — like building habits, right? — just showing up everywhere.

Coach Wayne

Yeah, and gotta give it up for Challenger. That kid was just dialed in. Three goals, an assist, and he let off fifteen shots on net. You just don’t see that volume from a single player often. Longo chipped in huge too — two goals, two assists.

Emily

Honestly, depth scoring was the story again. Not just those top names — everybody was rolling, and the bench energy was unreal. Faceoffs too, if I’m remembering right — it was 58 percent? That makes a huge difference, especially against a team that can score in bunches like Markham.

Coach Wayne

Yeah, and, just to jump back — that whole idea of momentum swings in high-scoring games? Reminds me of my days in junior hockey out in the OHL. Sometimes you'd ride these crazy highs where the floodgates just open and, it’s contagious, next guy jumps on, then the next. It just builds everyone’s confidence, not just your top scorers.

Emily

Yeah, it’s not about one line or one player — every line getting chances, making plays. You can feel that energy ripple down the bench, and no one wants to be the weak link, so everyone steps it up.

Chapter 2

Complete Control Against Mississauga

Emily

So rolling into Friday, it was almost… the opposite of chaos? Honestly, it felt like total control from start to finish. 7–1 over Mississauga and, like, you barely blink and it was out of reach for them.

Coach Wayne

That’s probably the one of most comfortable we’ve looked all year. Outshot ’em 66 to 15 and we only let eight shots hit the net. As a coach, you don’t get many nights that smooth. Five even-strength goals too — it was all three zones working together.

Emily

I keep coming back to how balanced it was. You get big numbers from Hanson — two goals, he was buzzing all game. Duke had a goal and an assist, Longo puts up points again, and Thompson slides in two helpers. But it was seriously, like, everyone looked threatening.

Coach Wayne

And right back to those little details that matter — we won 64% of our faceoffs. I talk about this probably too much for some people, but it’s huge. Puck possession after the draw just sets the tone, and when you see numbers that high, it means your whole center group is locked in. Actually, reminds me of some of those old faceoff battles in the NHL, where if you win them, especially in key zones, you tilt the ice in your favor. Not glamorous, but so important.

Emily

We talked about this in a few episodes now, but the team just... doesn’t get rattled anymore. They jump on teams early, keep the pace, and you can see everyone buying in, not just waiting for someone else to make a play. Like, the depth scoring and confidence we saw against Markham? It totally carried over into this one.

Coach Wayne

Yeah, I mean, when you get shot volume like we did, dominate the dots, and have every line contributing… that’s when you get those full team wins. It’s just so hard for the other team to find a way back in.

Chapter 3

Building Chemistry Beyond the Ice

Emily

And honestly, maybe my favorite part of the whole weekend — wasn’t even in an arena. After the Mississauga game, the team hit the golf simulator, tons of laughs, a little too much friendly heckling — you should’ve seen some of those swings, Wayne.

Coach Wayne

Ahhh, some of those swings had me cringing — but hey, that’s all part of it. Then everyone headed over to Longo’s place and set up on the outdoor rink. No coaches barking orders, no drills. Just pure, goofy hockey — tape-to-tape passes in sweatpants, people cheering for the craziest goals... that’s the stuff that sticks with you.

Emily

It’s funny, because you can’t coach chemistry like that. Just a bunch of kids loving the game. That’s what builds trust. And you know what, Wayne? You could totally see it show up this week. The puck movement, those instant defensive switches — it all just felt, like, quicker and looser, you know?

Coach Wayne

Yeah, 100%. That off-ice stuff? It’s magic. When you’ve had moments like that together, you come back, and suddenly the team game’s just got more energy, more creativity. I mean, some of these guys probably didn’t want the day to end.

Emily

Alright, so, two huge league wins, a week’s worth of highlight plays, and a team definitely having a blast together. That’s a wrap on episode twenty. Wayne?

Coach Wayne

Yeah, I mean, like we always say — just keep stacking those good habits, stick humble, and don’t forget to have fun. That’s the secret sauce.

Emily

We’ll see you all next week for more Blue & White. Thanks for listening!

Coach Wayne

Take care, Em. Go Marlboros!

Emily

Go Marlboros, Wayne! See you all soon.
